Can I still attend the conference if I don’t want to be on stage?

Yes, absolutely! We realize that some people aren’t ready to be in the Spotlight yet – and that’s ok! Spotlight is meant to be inspirational and enjoyable for delegates spectating the events as well. In fact, you can experience the entire conference from the passenger seat by selecting ‘No’ when asked on your application if you will be speaking/competing.

Do I need to submit my Ad Challenge/Break the Campaign Challenge/Talk Hour/Google Survival of the Boldest materials with my application on October 16th?

No. You will be prompted to submit these materials once you are accepted to the conference. This is also when you will receive more details about the Ad and Break the Campaign challenges and also our case competition, Survival of the Boldest, hosted by Google. Feel free to start brainstorming points for Talk Hour submissions now as the topics are posted on our website!

Do I need to identify my team members for the Google Survival of the Boldest Cast Competition before I submit my application on/before October 16th?

No. You will only be required to tell us your team members when you submit your executive summary for the case competition. Once accepted to the conference, those who indicated they were interested in competing for the case competition will receive a prompt/the required materials needed (i.e. the case) to submit an entry for it.

Am I supposed to register/pay on the Rotman Commerce Portal?

Not yet. We will email all accepted applicants within one week of the application deadline with links to register on the Rotman Commerce Portal. Applicants should register and pay on the Portal by the specified deadline in order to secure their spot at Spotlight. Note: you must complete the Spotlight application available on this website in order to register on Portal.

Are you going to assign teams for the Google Survival of the Boldest Case Competition?

No, we are giving the power to the people! Make your own teams as you wish! If you are having difficulty finding team members, please contact us at rcma@utoronto.ca or talk to Umair Nadeem, who posted below!

I am nervous to speak by myself for a Talk Hour – what do I do?

DEEP BREATH. We will not stand between you and living your dreams! You can apply to speak during a Talk Hour presentation with a partner to ease your anxieties!

Are transportation and lodging included in the ticket price?

No. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide transportation and lodging at this time. However, we strongly recommend that you see if your school’s program offers subsidies to conferences like Spotlight! Please contact us if you require assistance in arranging either of these in/to Toronto.
